Students in Schools runs during term time and involves a weekly commitment to support pupils in a local school. You’ll be matched with a placement based on your availability, travel preferences and interests — and we’ll provide all the guidance and training you need.
What You’ll Do
You’ll volunteer once a week (usually for 1–2 hours) during the school day. Your exact role depends on your placement — you can choose from a range of opportunities in both primary and secondary schools:
In primary schools, you might:
-
Help pupils develop their reading confidence one-to-one or in small groups
-
Support classroom activities and group work
-
Provide encouragement and build positive relationships
In secondary schools, you might:
-
Support pupils with English, maths, or science
-
Offer one-to-one academic help or small group tutoring
-
Act as a mentor and role model, helping build confidence and motivation
